Ooredoo celebrates World Telecom and Information Society Day

17th May 2014

Male’, Maldives - Ooredoo Maldives today sends wishes to all its customers on the occasion of World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD).

The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually on 17 May since 1969, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.

As this year theme for WTISD-14 is ‘Broadband for Sustainable Development’; Ooredoo is proud to be the only company providing the latest superfast 4G Broadband service in the region with no differentiation between the prices for 3G+ and superfast 4G.

Ooredoo has been playing an active role in bringing the latest communications technology to the people of Maldives since 2005. Ooredoo was the first company to launch 3G+ in the country and the superfast 4G network on April 2013.
